Press-conferenceAll major Austrian ISP´s agreed on monday to shut down internet services in Austria on Tuesday, 25. March from 16.00 and 18.00 (CET)
”In these two hours Austrian Internet will meet the requirements of the laws“ existing, said Michael Haberler of ISPA (Austrian Internet Providers Association) at a press conference on monday in Vienna.
Michael Pilz, expert on on new media laws, laid out the the double/bind situation Austrians ISP´s are in. Antiquated telecom laws the ruling socialdemocrat/conservative coalition parties have promised to amend for years hold providers more or less responsible for the contents they transport.
The takeway action document of Austrian police against www.vip.at - quintessenz reported - more than one year after a Munich´s public prosecutor´s office had asked for law enforcement assistance in this case, was signed by examining magistrate Helene Partik-Pablé. The latter is a prominent member of Joerg Haider´s rightwing Freedom Party and member of parliament.
AcoNet´s Peter Rastl, the man who introduced the net to Austria back incyber/stone/age not so long ago, is ready to shut it down for a while.
On monday he offered Austrian police & prosecutors free Internet accounts plus free training hours on net/connectivity.
